There's been a lot of conversation recently about no re-entry policies and I'll attempt to explain why these policies have been adopted by most Power 5 schools. To my knowledge, there is no plan in the works for a similar policy at OSU at this time.

The SEC has arguably the best conference-wide tailgating scene and the most rabid fans while the Pac-12 tailgating scene is decidedly moribund in comparison to our southern cousins. Yet, the SEC has a conference-wide ban on re-entry into the stadium (you can't go back to the tailgater). The Pac-12 leads the nation in schools that allow re-entry.

Here's the breakdown on re-entry in the Power 5 conferences and Notre Dame:

Why do most Power 5 schools feel they need a no re-entry policy? Security concerns are a justification for adoption of no re-entry policies. Not allowing re-entry is a cost control measure for gate staffing – funds formerly used to staff gates to facilitate re-entry can now directed to other pressing needs in game management. Control of re-entry reduces pass through attempts – where a ticket is used to gain entry by one and then passed to another outside for an additional entry on the same ticket. Where prohibited by a no re-entry policy, an un-scanned or new ticket is required for patrons that wish to re-enter the stadium. Many of these schools have established responsible tailgating guidelines and the no re-entry policy is seen as an important supportive piece of these guidelines. A no re-entry policy is not intended to keep fans in the stands for the second half.

The SEC conference policy on no re-entry was implemented in 2001 and more schools have adopted the policy in the years after.

What are the ten schools that have no restrictions on re-entry?

Oregon State
Oregon
Washington
Stanford
Arizona State
Indiana
Kansas State
Clemson
Duke
Oklahoma State

Seven schools do allow re-entry but with some restrictions. Typically, these restrictions are no entry late in the game such as after the 4th quarter begins. Five schools have no publicly posted policy on re-entry:

UCLA
Purdue
Notre Dame
Syracuse
TCU
