Had a record long conversation with Al Ashford a couple nights ago. Not going to say how long it was because it was ridiculous, but when I say that Ashford is far and away the most mature and well-spoken recruits I have ever spoken to, do not take that lightly. He is incredibly wise for his age and he’s a pleasure to talk to.

Al has been super busy working out, training, thinking about his decision, and has even taken up youth football coaching and takes it very seriously. He helps coach DBs and WRs for a local rec team, who is continuing to have a season despite the state of colorado not moving forward with a high school season.

One of the people Al has been training with has been Oregon State DB Jalen Moore. He actually sent me a video of him messing around in coverage against Jalen, I need to find a way to put it on here.

Anyways,

When I first talked to Ashford I remember him saying he was the kind of guy who could potentially commit at any time, but that is no longer the case. He now tells me that he has a decision date set for September 11th, and his peers are doing some things to try to get it broadcasted for all fans to see. There is no “top schools” list, but I can tell you with a good amount of certainty that this one will likely be a two-horse race between Oregon State and Colorado. There are some others like Washington State, Kansas State and Arizona who could sneak up, but I don’t see it happening.

Both schools have their pros and cons. For Oregon State, the pull is that he has built very good relationships and they believed in him before many other schools. His parents love the school as well which is always a major plus - but they also love Colorado as well because it is the in-state school meaning he gets to stay closer to home.

“I have been continuing to pray on it. I am just blessed to have the opportunity to pick a school. I am graduating in December, so I wanted to make a decision well before I potentially go to college. I am trying to know everything I need to know and learn how well I’d fit into the scheme before I decide. I don’t think I can make a wrong decision because they are all great schools, but I do think I can make a best one.”

When asked about early enrollment, Ashford said he has not made a decision yet.

As of right now, I give CU the SLIGHT upper hand. He is the teammate of one of their commits, and the in-state pull has been strong. They have also done well on the relationship aspect and were the first Pac-12 school to offer. Oregon State is BY NO MEANS out of it, but that is just my gut feel at the moment. Time will tell..
