Hey hey Beaversedge fam!

First and foremost, were in good hands with the staff at BeaversEdge. Reporting on a practice/scrimmage is fast and furious and rotations happen often and are fluid! It moves fast! Respect to Brenden and crew - they do a great job!

What a pretty day for football and lucky me, it was all 11 on 11!

Transfers:

“#00h yeah!”

#0 - transfer Kobe Singleton breaks on the ball beautifully. He almost made an interception that was bobbled as he went out of bounds. McCoy tossed the potential out route a little late. *which was a theme for him (but probably should be expected for a QB in a new system this early in the spring.) But Singleton will certainly push for a CB1 spot. And was active throughout the scrimmage.

#0 transfer Anthony Hankerson looks to be an obvious choice for touches this fall. He is as Deion had mentioned and Brenden has echoed - “a dawg.”

He is tough after contact and dynamic in space - he also catches the ball well, which seems to be a trend in the new Gunderson era. In pads he reminds you of a Maurice Jones Drew. He caught a beautiful one handed, contested ball from McCoy that placed the drive within the goal line. He also made two people miss that had the angle in him on an almost scoring zone play.

#58 Van wells will be a factor he is an athlete, moves well and has almost no “bad weight” on his 6’2 300lb frame. He may have even shed some weight since being listed as 307lbs on the roster.

#8 Sai Vadrawale - it is hard to catch everyone, but Sal came down hill in a hurry and blew up Noga immediately after the catch.

QBs - to summarize: I left cautiously excited/optimistic.

Ben is “steady Eddie” with the ball. During the scrimmage he was largely efficient and checked the ball down often to keep the chains moving. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets the start at the beginning of fall camp. And that could very well change as the season progresses. He might not be thought of as a running threat but he moves well in the pocket and well enough out of the pocket. Ben showcased some good Quarterbacking when he made couple plays once things started to break down. Ben’s detractors should remember he is still a junior and I believe his best football is still ahead of him as a thrower.

We know he is already a serviceable game manager if not the most dynamic down field passer.

That being said, McCoy certainly has a high ceiling from what I saw. I expect him to continue to settle down and grow in the offense through the rest of spring, summer and fall camp.

A big moment on 4th down he threw a poorly placed/timed ball picked by Andre Jordan, that made the defensive side of the ball go crazy.

He did however seem to find a rhythm in his later drives with consecutive completions to East, Jailen Holmes and David Wells. As well as the ball to Hankerson in the red zone.

Receivers -

With injuries being what they are, we don’t appear to be particularly dynamic at WR currently. East dropped a well place ball from McCoy. Trent Walker made catches.

Jailen holmes is a twitchy athlete made people miss in traffic snd in space. He made several catches and was probably the most consistent at the wide receiver position, Saturday.

Jordan Anderson is the real deal. . . The end. He made a sports center worthy diving catch. It was impressive for a seasoned vet let alone an unpolished frosh. You can tell he arrived to compete.

OL -

I think it’s hard to come to too many absolutes. We’re a little banged up at the position.

RB -

Newell seemed ti struggle to catch the ball out of the backfield but ran hard and received the lion share of the carries.

TE -

They are doing a lot with Jermaine Terry he was flexed out and consistently in motion. He inly had one catch that I noticed and that was swallowed up immediately.

Defense:

Like TJ and Brenden have mentioned - this is defense should be a continuation of a solid Bray led defense. I am sure there will be some growing pains - (how could there not be with all the new faces.) They flew to the ball and were consistently disruptive. The DB and D line play looked to have a lot of potential.

The D line and Secondary rotate like crazy. There will be some really fun battles come fall camp.

#43 Takari Hickle continues on his work from last spring and fall camp. He tagged off on QB’s twice that I saw. He also defeated a block to make an impressive (and loud) hit on hankerson for a loss.

#33 Olu may not have recorded a ton of stats but he passes the eye test in pads, dude is built like an action figure and was near the ball on several occasions. I think he is going to be a solid part of the rotation.

Aiden Sullivan almost picked Ben with a late pass near the right hash. Just watching him play. He will be fun as he continues to absorb the culture and playbook.

Walk on U!:

Kitan Oladapo, Jaydon Grant, Mike Hass, but to name a few!

Here are some walk ons worth mentioning -

Voltin the pride of Regis high, received almost exclusively 1st team reps at RG . Tyler has obvious measurable 6’4 350+ but also looks to be improving his footwork and flexibility. If you watched him last year, you saw a road grader in the run game.

Dom Monteil - Dom the walk on from Marshfield is such a cool story, and though i don’t think he will be in the mix for the QB1 spot, he certainly knows where to find the sticks when he tucks it and runs.

Clive Pond - this is a new name to me, but he blew up a play in the backfield that ignited the defense.

Trent Walker just continues to make catches. . . Sometimes tough catches.

Really grateful for the opportunity - Thanks to Brenden! I hope I can fill in and help out whenever needed.
