DAY 6 NUGGETS:

It was a cooler day in Corvallis with a strong breeze, as the Beavers were back in helmets, shoulder pads, and shorts for Day 6 of fall camp. Practice was held in Reser Stadium today for the first time all camp.

Here’s a look at the first-team offense from today.

QB: Jake Luton/Tristan Gebbia
RB: Jermar Jefferson/BJ Baylor
WR: Isaiah Hodgins
WR: Kolby Taylor
WR: Champ Flemings
TE: Noah Togiai/Teagan Quitoriano/Isaiah Smalls
LT: Blake Brandel
LG: Gus Lavaka
C: Nous Keobounnam
RG: Clay Cordasco
RT: Brandon Kipper

Jake Luton was once again the first QB to take reps today. Luton looked sharp, delivering some nice throws. Today’s practice was slightly shorter with less team work, but the QBs still made some nice highlights.

Tristan Gebbia completed a fade route to Isaiah Smalls for a score early in practice. Gebbia also found Isaiah Hodgins on a slant for a score. Gebbia has shown the ability to squeeze the ball into tight windows regularly throughout camp.

Gebbia put some heat on a pass to Jesiah Irish on a curl route. Irish was popped right as he caught it, but still hung onto the ball.

Gebbia hit Taron Madison for a score on a swing route out of the backfield. Madison can do a little bit of everything at running back for the Beavs, and is an adept pass catcher.

Kolby Taylor had one of the major highlights of the day coming on a pass from Luton. Taylor was headed on an out route right at the goal line with Shawn Wilson in tight coverage. Taylor fought off Wilson for the ball, and secured it by pinning it against the side of his helmet, not a small feat.

Luton also found Noah Togiai on a deep route for a score. Togiai and Luton have had good chemistry so far throughout camp. Luton also linked up with Hodgins for a score on a crossing route in the back of the end zone.

Calvin Tyler Jr. has been working back to full health, and has been getting many reps with the twos in camp. Tyler caught a pass out of the backfield from Luton for a TD. This was after Tyler received three straight handoffs, totaling about 20 yards, and resulting in a score.

BJ Baylor and Jermar Jefferson looked really solid in pass-blocking drills. Jefferson held his own against blitzing linebackers on several occasions, even stopping Avery Roberts, who was a defensive force in the drill.

Baylor also had several nice rushes on the day, including a 10+ yarder over the right side of the line. Baylor was getting reps with the ones today, a sign of his improvement.

Andre Bodden had a nice snag on a ball thrown behind him. Bodden was running a slant route, and managed to make the catch behind him in traffic.

Nick Moore stepped into a throw at the end of practice and was hit, but still completed the pass to freshman Luke Musgrave. Musgrave then got hit at the end of the play also, but still held onto the ball.

Quick Notes: Artavis Pierce was in pads, but trained on the side… Anthony Gould remains on crutches, no timetable on his injury yet… Aidan Willard had pads on today for the first time…

The Defense had a really solid day of practice. Even though the team wasn’t in full pads, they went ‘thud’ tempo—just wrap up, not to the ground. Here’s a look at the ones.

DE: Simon Sandberg
DT: Elu Aydon
DE: Lamone Williams
OLB: Hamilcar Rashed Jr.
ILB: Shemar Smith
ILB: Avery Roberts
OLB: Andrzej Hughes-Murray/Addison Gumbs
CB: Isaiah Dunn
S: Jeffrey Manning Jr./TraJon Cotton
S: Omar Hicks-Onu
CB: Jojo Forest/Kaleb Hayes
Nickel: Jaydon Grant/Shawn Wilson

Nashon Wright stood out in the second group, forcing a fumble on Taron Madison near the start of practice. Wright has forces several fumbles, as the Beavs focus more on creating turnovers.

Avery Roberts looked very sharp in one-on-one blitz drills with o-linemen and running backs. Roberts seemed to fight off every block, and was only slowed down by Jefferson. Roberts could be a major force up the middle.

Hamilcar Rashed had a really nice pass breakup as he dropped back into coverage. He batted down an out route, and got up in the air to knock the pass away. Roberts said after practice that Rashed is one of the hardest workers in the group of linebackers.

Shawn Wilson had a nice sack on a blitz from the nickel spot. It was well timed, and Wilson ran right past the running back en route to the QB.

Andzrej Hughes-Murray and Addison Gumbs split first team reps for the first time during camp. Gumbs was playing at full speed, and is a very long, strong outside ‘backer. He’s clearly ready to hit, as he popped one of the team managers (not wearing pads) who was standing at quarterback for the pass rush drills.

Kee Whetzel had a really nice spin move during one-on-ones to get to the QB. It’s not surprising, given he played outside linebacker last season. Whetzel could see playing time in obvious run situations.

Quick Notes: I did not see Jordan Whittley at practice today. He’s been rotating with Aydon at defensive tackle, and they have played together in run-stop situations… Jalen Moore was seen with crutches, although a trainer eventually took them away from him. No update on Moore’s status, as he was a full go in practice yesterday… David Morris was running on the side again. He was in full pads again today… Jeffrey Manning Jr. took some reps at safety at the start of practice, but went back to running with Moore and Moku Watson on the side… Isaac Hodgins went through individual drills, but remained on the sideline for team drills...
