CORVALLIS, Ore. – Adley Rutschman’s inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the 10th inning sent the fourth-ranked Oregon State baseball team to an 8-7 win in a seesaw battle Tuesday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Rutschman drilled an 0-1 pitch from reliever Cooper Powell into center field. The ball skipped past the diving center fielder, Cole Krzmarzick, all the way to the fence in center. Rutschman rounded the bases for his third home run of the season and the Beavers’ first inside-the-park home run since Michael Miller in 2010 at USC.
With the win, the Beavers (23-4 overall) swept the two-game midweek series from Nevada (15-11), both in comeback fashion.
The Beavers fell behind 5-0 after three Nevada home runs in the fourth Tuesday. Oregon State, however, chipped away at the deficit, scoring two in the sixth and another in the seventh.
Oregon State then used six walks in the eighth to take a 7-5 lead before the Wolf Pack scored two in the ninth off reliever Luke Heimlich to send the game to extra innings for the second consecutive night.
That set the table for Rutschman, who ended the game 4-for-4 with two RBI and two walks. He singled in the first, fourth and seventh innings, and walked in the sixth and eighth.
Oregon State ended the night with 13 hits off eight Nevada pitchers. Steven Kwan also tallied a multi-hit effort, garnering two hits.
Powell was charged with the loss after 2/3 innings. He dropped to 1-3 on the year.
Heimlich picked up his seventh win of the season after going 1 2/3 innings. He allowed three hits and two runs.

Heimlich In ReliefSenior Luke Heimlich entered in relief in the ninth for his first relief outing since May 3, 2016 versus Seattle. He made nine relief appearances in 2016, and with Tuesday’s outing, has come out of the bullpen 37 times in his career. The appearance Tuesday was his 73rd all-time.
Extras AgainThe Beavers played in extra innings in back-to-back games for the first time since going to extras twice against Utah in 2012.
