I think I'm starting to get the hang of making these gifs. Not sure how well these look on your mobile phones so I recommend viewing on a desktop computer or ipad. Click the gif to enlarge it a little bit.
- I slowed this one down so you can see the play develop. Obviously, great vision here by Ryan Nall to find the crease set between the pulling guards Gus Lavaka and Trent Moore. Also, great blocking by Noah Togiai to take the OLB out of the play. But what really made this play a touchdown instead of a four or five yard gain was #6 of Colorado. He wanted nothing to do with Ryan Nall. You can see him coming down into the box as an extra linebacker (#6 plays safety) and no Oregon State player put a hand on him. He just didn't want to find Nall in the hole. Can you blame him?
- Wildcat trick play! What. A. Throw. By. Darell. Garretson. Fred Lauina got beat by Colorado's best pass rusher #52, but Garretson fired a 50 yard strike down to Jordan Villamin. One thing that's hard to see on the TV broadcast, but you can kind of see it at the beginning, is the excellent route ran by Villamin. This was such a long developing play, so Villamin had to stutter across the middle of the field, making it appear like he was looking for someone to block. Garretson is no Aaron Rodgers, so Villamin couldn't get too far down field, so great job by Villy and an excellent catch. Also, great play design by Kevin Mcgiven. Have to give him props. Watch the two Colorado defenders at the top of the play when DG gets the ball, and they have a "oh sh*t" moment and start running back in coverage.
- The Oregon State offensive line shifts their blocks to the left, and watch the pulverizing block by Gus Lavaka on the pull. And then the wrecking Nall does the rest. This offensive line did such a good job against Colorado in the run game. They're coming along nicely just like last season.
- I slowed this one down too so you all can get a good look at why this was such a horrible play call. Garretson or Hall should've called timeout because this was the worst possible play call for the what Colorado was showing. It doesn't take a football coach to figure out what went wrong here. Colorado brought seven guys, Oregon State only had five guys in to block. Two of the blocks (RG/RT and (C/LG) were double teams. So Colorado had four guys run into the backfield unblocked. All four of Oregon State's receivers had one on one coverage with NO safety help. But with :24 left, Oregon State ran right into a brick wall.
