Last post regarding the Our Beaver Nation event here in Scottsdale last Saturday night. Coach Andersen followed Coach Casey and began with a story about the impact that Coach Casey has indirectly had on the life of some of his family members. He then began to talk about the football program and his vision. Here are some of the takeaways, some you may have already heard.

Wide-open offense. The offense will focus on tempo and pace that will be adjusted to fit the opponent and in-game situation. There will be times when the ball will be snapped within the first 10 seconds of the play clock while at other times they will use nearly every second before the ball is snapped. There will be an emphasis on when and how to change personnel as it does allow the defense to substitute. The defense is going to be aggressive. Coach recognizes how young they will be on defense but that is not going to stop them from putting pressure on their opponents. There will be a lot of man defense played in the secondary.Practices for the most part will be closed to the public. The reason is very simple; competitive advantage. The PAC-12 is one of the most competitive conferences in the country and to compete at the highest level there are things that happen in practice you don't want to risk falling into an opponents hands. He recognize that this is different than the way Coach Riley did things.Coach breaks down the year into 4 quarters. Q1 is winter conditioning, Q2 is Spring Ball, Q3 is summer workouts, and Q4 the season.Every single day will be a competition. Offense will go against Defense every single day and there will be winners and losers. Competing every single day against each other will directly influence how they compete on the field on Saturday. Coach expects tensions to rise during practice, whether player-player or coach-coach, and says that is part of competition and they will learn to manage it as they arise.Thursdays are going to be centered around Special Teams. This is where they will practice fake punts, kicks, and a few trick plays. While they may not run one of these in every game, they will be in the arsenal and players will be prepared to execute them when called upon to do so.Coach was asked about the talent level on the team and did talk about specific position groups, his expectations and vision for each. Currently there are 6 QB's on scholarship, he would like that number to be 4 and hopes to have the starter by the end of Spring Ball. OL he feels good about and even better if Isaac is able to get healthy. RB's there is currently one that he sees as the front runner and others who will compete at the position. WR's look good. Defensively they are very young and competition for spots will be wide open. The last question he was asked centered around penalties and his plans to be a more disciplined team. While he did say that the plan is to be disciplined in what happens after the whistle, there is no intention of being the least penalized team in the league. To compete at the highest level means that you play close to the edge.

To summarize; Coach Andersen seems to be a very focused and driven CEO. He has a plan and is 100% focused on being in tune with the coaches, the players, and competing at the highest level.
