With OSU’s game against Washington only being a few days away, the Beavers held their usual Thursday walkthrough in advance of their game against the No. 5 ranked Washington Huskies.

The Beavers will have their hands full against the Huskies who are one of the best defensive teams in the country, especially with OSU rolling out their third string quarterback Marcus McMaryion. But coach Gary Andersen has faith in Marcus’ leadership.

“I think (Marcus) is in a spot where guys rally around him because he knows he is going to be the starter,” Andersen said. “He carries himself as a very solid student athlete every single day when he comes out to practice and the way he prepares. I’m proud of the way he prepared this week.

Few teams this season have been able to go toe-to-toe with the Huskies this season, but surprisingly one of those teams was Arizona, who lost to the Huskies 35-28 in overtime. Arizona did a good job of keeping Jake Browning off balance, and keeping the score close. Ultimately the Huskies won the game, but coach Andersen noticed some things that the Wildcats did well.

“Arizona did a nice job of continually staying in the game,” Andersen said. “The Huskies have had some many games where their opponents haven’t been able to stay in the game. Defensively, they hung in there, and they didn’t react in a negative way to big plays. They kept on fighting and battling. That’s what you have to do against good teams.”

Practice Nuggets
  • Only Seth Collins and Marcus McMaryion took reps at quarterback today. McMaryion took the majority of the reps, but when Collins was in, he looked pretty good. They worked on moving him around quite a bit, and showed his ability to run from the pocket.
  • The mood of practice today was very serious. There have been many times where Thursday walkthroughs have led to players been loose and having quite a bit of laughs, but today players were all laser focused in preparations for the Huskies.

  • Tim Cook lined up with the 1’s again today. With Nall and Pierce on the injury report, Cook could be in line for a big workload against the Huskies.
Injury Notes
  • Running back Ryan Nall, who reinjured his foot against Utah was in a boot today, and said he is not sure if he will play against Washington
  • Tight end Ricky Ortiz participated in practice today. Andersen said he still isn't sure on whether or not he would play.
  • Running back Artavis Pierce did not participate in the portion open to the media. He is listed as probable on the injury report.
Final Word
“I expect our team to do the things that they have done all year long,” Andersen said. “They have faced some good times, they have faced some bad times and they have faced adversity and they have faced almost everything. They have worked very hard to get through it all. I hope they will handle situations this Saturday as they have all year.”
