HILLSBORO, Ore. –
Steven Kwan tied the Oregon State single-game record with five hits, including a home run and two triples, to pace the Beavers to a 9-2 win over Portland in front of 4,800 fans Tuesday night at Ron Tonkin Field.

The last Beaver with five hits in a game? The answer is Koa Kahalehoe on May 31, 2009 versus Texas A&M. Kwan equaled that feat by going 5-for-6 on Tuesday night. The junior led off the game with his second career home run, singled in the second and fourth innings, then tripled in the seventh and ninth.

He drove in two and upped his average to .319 after starting the day at .297.

Overall, the Beavers (30-6) tallied 17 hits off six Portland (15-24) pitchers. Adley Rutschman finished with three, while Nick Madrigal, Trevor Larnach and Michael Gretler all had two. Rutschman added three walks, while Tyler Malone tallied three as well. His streak of a home run in five consecutive games was snapped but he finished 1-for-3 with an RBI coming in the ninth.

Jordan Britton earned his second win of the season after throwing three innings in a start. The lefty scattered three hits while holding Portland scoreless.

Portland’s Joey Morris was charged with a loss after allowing four hits and two runs in 1 1/3 innings. He is now 1-2 on the year.

Brandon Eisert earned a long save after throwing 3 2/3 innings. The sophomore now has three saves on the year and seven in his career after limiting Portland to three hits with four strikeouts.

Oregon State scored in every inning but the fourth and eighth innings, plating two in both the fifth and ninth innings. The Beavers sent at least four batters to the plate in every inning, and five or more in all but the third, fourth and seventh.

Lead It OffSteven Kwan’s leadoff home run on Tuesday marked the Beavers’ first since Ryan Barnes against Stanford on May 5, 2012. That game was played at Goss Stadium. Kwan’s round tripper was the second of his career. His first came in 2017, a grand slam against California.

Hit StreakCadyn Grenier led off the sixth with a single to extend his hit streak to 12 games. It’s the second-longest on the team this season, trailing Andy Armstrong’s 14-gamer. Grenier is 20-for-52 (.385) during the streak.

Largest Crowd Of The SeasonThe 4,800 in attendance at Tuesday’s game marked a season-high to watch the Beavers this season. It topped the 4,645 in the series opener at Arizona on April 6. The 4,800 was just shy of the 4,852 that came out to see Oregon State play Central Arkansas at Ron Tonkin Field in 2016.

Double FiguresOregon State finished in double-figure hits for the second consecutive game and 17th time overall this season. The 2017 Beavers finished with 10 or more 29 times in 62 games.

Non-ConferenceOregon State’s win pushed the Beavers to 20-1 in non-conference play this season. Oregon State has won 20 or more games out of conference in 13 of the last 15 seasons dating back to 2004. OSU has four more non-conference games scheduled; two at Oregon and two at Goss Stadium versus San Diego.

In HillsboroOregon State improved to 2-0 all-time at Ron Tonkin Field. The Beavers had defeated Central Arkansas at the Single-A park, 6-2, in 2016.
