Was just chatting with another Blitzer about our possible attendance this weekend. I don't have high hopes and honestly it seems like a perfect storm...
-Night game
-Bad opponent
-$80 ticket (single game)
-2-4 record
-Low casual fan interest (after 2+ mediocre seasons)
At this point, what is going to draw a casual fan to Reser Stadium this Saturday? Even if they are interested an $80 ticket seems pretty cost prohibitive. Even on StubHub right now the cheapest ticket is $49 -- why would I want to pay even half that? I've seen people bash the ducks for selling tickets on Groupon but honestly we should have our tickets on Groupon this weekend and every game going forward if it means getting people in the seats. This is a much bigger issue to me than the barrage of night or Friday games.
Hopefully season ticket holder and student attendance can get us a decent crowd (although student attendance usually seems to be pretty reactive to our record). We've already had 3 home games under 40,000 this year and seems very likely we'll have another one on Saturday.
