CORVALLIS, Ore. – Bryce Fehmel and Max Engelbrekt combined to one-hit Ball State Thursday night to help send the fourth-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 2-0 victory at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The win sent head coach Pat Casey to 800 victories all-time at Oregon State.

The teams will continue the series Friday in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Saturday. The DH, at Goss Stadium, will start at 1:35 p.m. PT. Fans who have tickets to Friday’s originally scheduled Friday night game can attend the 1:35 game as well. The teams will conclude the series Saturday at 1:35 p.m. with one game.

Fehmel shut down the Cardinals (8-5 overall), limiting Ball State to a second-inning single by Colin Brockhouse. The sophomore struck out four, walked one and faced 26 batters for his second victory of the season.

Engelbrekt came on in relief of Fehmel in the ninth, recording his fourth save of the season after striking out two.

Oregon State (11-1) scored both of its runs in the second. Andy Atwood scored on a wild pitch, then watched as Nick Madrigal drilled a run-scoring single to the gap in right center.

Next Up In The Pac-12

Pat Casey’s 800th win at Oregon State made him the eighth coach in Pac-12 Conference history to reach that plateau. Next up for Casey on the Pac-12’s all-time list is Frank Sancet, who won 831 games at Arizona from 1950-72.

Madrigal Pushes To A Four-Game Streak

Nick Madrigal singled home a run in the second, pushing the Beavers to a 2-0 lead. The single pushed his hit streak to four games, and is two shy of his season long of six games. He has six hits over the four games.

Infield

The Oregon State infield has remained pretty consistent over the past five games, including in Thursday night’s victory over Ball State. Cadyn Grenier (second base), Michael Gretler (third base) and Nick Madrigal (shortstop) have made five consecutive starts at their respective positions. KJ Harrison (first base) and Adley Rutschman (catcher) have started four of five at their positions, trading spots in the second win over UC Davis.

ERA Pushing Down

The team’s earned run average slid further down with the team’s third shutout of the season. Oregon State’s staff ERA is at 1.25, down from 1.36 entering the game.
