Last Game

Jake Thompson held Arizona State scoreless over 7 1/3 innings, striking out a career-best 10, to help send the Beavers to a 4-0 victory over the Sun Devils Saturday in Phoenix. The win gave the Beavers the series sweep of ASU, for the first time in Arizona since 1966. KJ Harrison tallied three hits in the win, while the Beavers rapped out 14 overall. The shutout was the second of the series as the Oregon State pitching staff held ASU to nine hits and a run in 27 innings.

A Top-10 Matchup

The series matches the top-ranked Beavers against No. 9 Arizona (per D1Baseball.com). It is the first top-10 matchup at Goss Stadium since No. 2 Oregon State versus No. 5 Washington in 2014. The Beavers took that series, 2-1.

Dueling Honors

Cadyn Grenier and Jake Thompson became the first set of OSU teammates to sweep Pac-12 honors on Tuesday since Matt Boyd and Michael Conforto in 2013. Grenier earned Player of the Week honors while Thompson was named the top pitcher.

Madrigal And USA

Nick Madrigal has accepted an invitation to play for Team USA this summer with the Collegiate National Team. It will be his fourth Team USA appearance as he’s also played with the organization’s 14U, 15U and 18U clubs.

Pitching Numbers

Oregon State’s team earned run average, at 1.06, leads the nation, as does its WHIP at 0.81. The Beavers also lead the country at 5.28 hits-per-nine-innings, and are second with six shutouts. OSU is third with 2.00 walks-per-nine and fourth with a 4.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Singles

• Oregon State has won four of the last five series between the two teams at Goss Stadium. OSU won the last matchup at Goss, 2-1, in 2015.

• The matchup marks the first against a top-25 club for the Beavers this season.

• OSU carries the nation’s No. 1 RPI, per the NCAA, into the game. Arizona stands at No. 3.

• A win Friday would put the Beavers at 18-1 for just the fourth time in school history.
