NCAA TOURNAMENT


Women’s Basketball is headed to the “Sweet 16” for the fourth consecutive year. OSU will play No. 1 seed Louisville in Albany, NY Friday at approximately 6 p.m. PDT and air on ESPN. If the Beavers advance they would play UConn or UCLA Sunday.


Wrestlers Ronnie Bresser (Klamath Falls, Ore.) and Amar Dhesi (Surrey, B.C.) both earned All-America honors at last week’s NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh. Dhesi is a three-time All-American and Bresser a two-time honoree.


ACADEMICS


Wrestlers Aaron Olmos (Imperial Beach, Calif.) and Bob Coleman (Hermiston) were honored via the Pac-12 All-Academic team this week. Olmos is a public health major and carries a 3.53 overall GPA. Coleman, an agricultural business management major, owns a 3.06 GPA.

ALL-AMERICAN

Sophomore Kaitlyn Yanish (Chandler, Ariz.) has been named as a Regular Season Second Team All-American by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).

NATIONAL COMPETITION

Stephen Thompson, Jr., (Los Angeles) will be participate in a national 3x3 competition in early April at the Mall of Americas in Minneapolis.

TOURNAMENT VICTORY

The men’s golf team won the Duck Invitational by 10 shots this week. The team shot a combined 3-under par. The Beavs return to the links near Seattle next week.

• Women’s Basketball is No. 11 (ranked in every coaches poll since preseason of 2013-14) this week.
• Baseball is as high as No. 4. (ranked for 41consecutive weeks)
• Gymnastics is No. 15.
• Women’s Rowing is No. 16 (first ranking since 2015)
• Men’s Rowing is No. 18.

FOOTBALL

• Spring Practice resumes April 4. The annual Spring Game at Reser Stadium April 20 at 11 a.m. on the Pac-12 Network. The second annual Dam City Showcase will mirror last year’s event at Mountainside High School in Beaverton– April 13 at 11 a.m.
• Currently the team has more sophomores (42) than juniors and seniors combined (39). OSU has the most sophomores of any team in the Pac-12.
• Football has 20 returning starters, including specialists, out of a possible 25.

BASKETBALL (WOMEN)

• Team is 26-7 and is slated to play No. 1 seeded Louisville in the Sweet 16 at Albany, N.Y. Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
• Oregon State is one of eight current teams that has made to the Sweet 16 four straight seasons.
• Mikayla Pivec (Lynnwood, Wash.) and Destiny Slocum (Meridian, Idaho) have been named as WBCA Region Five All-America Finalists. The WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches’ All-America team will be announced April 4.
• Pivec has registered four straight double-doubles.
• OSU has notched the 14th 20-win season in program history and its sixth straight. It is the seventh time the Beavers have won 20 games in a season in the Scott Rueck era.
• After drawing more than 5,000 fans to the NCAA Tournament First and Second Round games last week, the Beavers have now drawn 4,000-plus fans to Gill Coliseum in 20 straight contests.

• All-session passes to the NCAA Corvallis Regional Championships, April 4-6, remain available.
BASEBALL

• Team visits Washington for a three-game series in Seattle. Friday starts at 7 p.m., followed by 2 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday. All three games will air on the Pac-12 Network.
• Matthew Gretler(Bonney Lake, Wash. hit his first career home run on Tuesday against Portland in Hillsboro. The freshman and brother of former Beaver Michael Gretler, enters the series versus Washington a three-game hit streak.
• A crowd of 4,648 saw the Beavers and Pilots at Hillsboro’s Ron Tonkin Field. OSU has played three games there since 2016, and crowds of 4,600 or better have attended all three.
• Bryce Fehmel(Aguora Hills, Calif.) became the fourth pitcher in school history to win 30 career games. He is also one of 30 candidates nationally for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award.
• Grant Gambrell (Clovis, Calif.) tied a career-best with 12 strikeouts in the team’s win over California Sunday. OSU took 2-of-3 games versus Cal, winning the final two.
• Beavers need to one win to ensure a winning month of March. OSU has posted winning records in March every year since 2005.
• Team returns to Goss Stadium at Coleman Field next week for a six-game stretch at home. Beavers host San Diego State April 2-3 and then Utah April 5-7 before a midweek game with Oregon on April 9.
SOFTBALL

• OSU holds a 17-10 record going into this weekend.
• Travels to No. 7 Washington for a three-game series. All three games will be broadcast on Pac-12 Oregon and Pac-12 Washington with Elise Woodward and Danielle Lawrie on the call. Links can be found on the softball schedule page on OSUBeavers.com.
•Senior Shelby Weeks (Tracy, Calif.) is five stolen bases away from holding the OSU Career Record – she currently has 53. Weeks also sits tied for No. 4 in the Pac-12 this season with 10 stolen bases.

•OSU sits No. 1 in batters struck out looking (64) and No. 3 in stolen bases (35) in the conference.

•Jessica Garcia (Hughson, Calif.) moved into No. 3 for stolen bases (11) in the conference and claimed the No. 3 spot in OSU career stolen bases (45).

•Frankie Hammoude (Oakland, Calif.) hit a grand slam against Arizona on Saturday for her first one as a Beaver and eighth home run of the season.

WOODCHIPS

• Olivia Benzin(Tacoma, Wash.) shot a career best 8-under 72-68-68—208 to lead the women’s golf team to a third place finish in Arizona. The team is at a tournament in North Carolina this week.
• Women’s Rowing defeated No. 15 Washington State last week and next will compete at a regatta at Dexter Lake April 6.
• Men’s Rowing hosts UCLA in an exhibition this week at Dexter Lake before traveling to Redwood City, Calif., next week for a regatta.
