CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jake Mulholland threw four scoreless innings of relief and Cadyn Grenier hit a three-run triple in the sixth inning to send seventh-ranked Oregon State to a 4-1 win over UC Davis Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

The win sent the Beavers to a sweep of the Aggies, outscoring UC Davis, 22-3, over the three-game series. Oregon State improved to 10-1 on the year and is on a five-game win streak heading into a Tuesday matchup with Portland at Goss Stadium.

Mulholland came on in relief of starter Jake Thompson in the sixth and proceeded to hold the Aggies to one hit in four innings. He struck out two and faced 13 batters – one over the minimum – to earn his first career win.

The Beavers were held to one hit over the first five innings, but loaded the bases in the sixth via three straight walks by UC Davis starter Justin Mullins. The Aggies pulled Mullins, and reliever Chris Brown plunked Michael Gretler on a 1-0 pitch to tie the game at one.

The next batter, Grenier, drilled a triple into the gap in right center to score three and give OSU the 4-1 lead.

Jake Thompson started for the Beavers and worked five innings, limiting UC Davis (3-6) to five hits and a run. He did not figure in the decision. His counterpart, Mullins, was charged with the loss after allowing one hit, three runs and five walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Starting Staff Note

Jake Thompson scattered five hits and a run in five innings. Oregon State’s starting pitchers have now allowed 13 earned runs in 66 2/3 innings for an earned run average of 1.75. The starting staff has combined for 63 strikeouts to just 14 walks this season.

Grenier Goes For Three

Cadyn Grenier’s three-run triple in the sixth inning was his fourth of the season, which leads the Pac-12 Conference. The sophomore totaled three as a freshman and his seven in 63 career games puts him one shy of ninth all-time at Oregon State. Grenier also extended his hit streak to three games, a season long.

That Bullpen

Jake Mulholland’s four scoreless innings gave the Oregon State bullpen its second victory of the season. The bullpen has now allowed 18 hits and 11 walks – none Sunday – in 32 1/3 innings this season. Against UC Davis, the ‘pen gave up just three hits in 8 1/3 innings. The bullpen’s ERA this season is a miniscule 0.56.
