Via Chantel Jennings of The Athletic:

I chatted with someone this week who has a really good feel for the vibe of the Oregon State coaches and he said the group thinks the recruiting aspect of what they want to do in Corvallis is getting to a better place.

Oregon State is going to be a slower build and head coach Jonathan Smith knew that when he took the job. But, the life source of every college football program is recruiting, so if they can make small gains there, it’ll boost everything about the program.

And a big part of that recruiting success, specifically for Oregon State is going to come from transfers. Some college programs don’t want to rely on players who won’t have as much time in the program as high school recruits, but Oregon State, especially now as it works to build from the ground up, could really use some guys who can inject some instant talent and experience into that depth chart, even if they are one- or two-year players. Their 2019 class featured six transfers and of late, Oregon State has had some wins at the JUCO level on the trail for 2020 — the Beavers have commitments from Alex Lemon and Travis Shippen, both considered top-10 JUCO D-ends.
