I think we saw the vision of what will be in time, during that first 3 minutes stretch that opened the game. That part gives me hope. That was fun to watch - great execution - great play calling.
I think we saw Michigan find their 'identity' as a power football team. As long as they are not forced into playing 'catch up' like they were at Utah last week, they'll have a chance simply because they can run down hill very good. You all can say that's not a good Michigan football team, but I'll wait to see how they finish in the Big-10. They are as physical of a football team as I've seen, and they really started playing with confidence in this game. Their QB is not very good, but I think their O-line and that RB are pretty solid. In the Big-10, that will carry you pretty far.
I think we saw just how far we are at the QB position. I kept thinking to myself 'what if' Darrel Garretson was eligible in this game, would the outcome be different? Collins had some positive moments, but also showed some youth and poor decisions. He'll get better I'm sure. McMaryion was again put into some really bad situations, and I have to wonder at the staff for that. He really didn't look like a QB that wanted to be out there though when he went, or felt confident in what he was trying to do. I was really disappointed about that. Without leadership at the QB position, it's hard to set the tone.
Wonder why Storm didn't get in the game earlier. Was he in the dog house for something?
IMO this is a bench mark game. This is a game film that in a year or two, the staff should take out and show the team, assuming that improvement is made. For me, it was very painful to watch, and harkened back to the Pettibone days where it was a revolving succession of failed execution and 3 and outs offensively, and a demoralized defense sent out to try and slow down a much more physical team.
Note to team: Wash, Rinse, Flush... Next week is a new opportunity...
