Sacramento (Calif.) Inderkum safety Trajon Cotton is one of the most high profile recruits that Oregon State has left on their recruiting board. He is not the highest rated, but Oregon State fans and coaches alike really, really want Cotton in Corvallis. #TrajonToCorvallis is the trend on Twitter.
Cotton officially visited Oregon State over the weekend, and he recapped his time with BeaversEdge.com.
"Corvallis is a special place," Cotton said. "It was a really interesting visit; I liked it a lot. I liked the whole vibe from the town and everybody was really nice. It's really a college town like everyone says. Everything is right there, close to each other. You don't have to travel very far - the dorms, hotel, stadium, facilities, campus.
"I liked it a lot. The whole vibe from the staff was good. It was real family atmosphere like everyone says. Coach A is a great coach. We ate dinner at his house. It was just real nice."
Cotton got to spend a lot of time with the Oregon State staff, including new safeties coach John Rushing. They had a lot to talk about with Cotton about why he should end up a Beaver.
"They were telling me how I'm the top DB on their board. They're really trying to build something up there to get over the hump. I'd be in coach A's [Gary Andersen] second recruiting class [at OSU]. They're really trying to do what Colorado did, but they think they can do it a little quicker. They think this is the real to get to a bowl game and a championship. They have big goals this year, and I like that a lot too."
When I asked Cotton about who is top schools were, he said it was "pretty much" between Oregon State and Colorado. He seems to have moved on from Oregon, which was another top contender for him.
For Colorado, they lost their defensive coordinator and cornerbacks to Oregon, and their safeties coach is under domestic violence allegations. Cotton is not counting out Colorado though.
"I just know that's a place I can always fall back on," he explained. "Like, that was the first team that offered me and the first place I felt like home. There's still a real family atmosphere there still, because I know coach Mac won't let that leave. He's a real DB guru; he coached DB's for the Cowboys in the NFL, so he knows what he's talking about. He will make sure it will be a great staff."
Cotton has now taken official visits to Nebraska, Oregon, Colorado, and Oregon State. He's considering taking his final official visit between Wyoming, Arizona State, and a number of other Pac-12 and Mountain West Conference schools.
"I'm still debating if I want to take that fifth. If I don't I will commit in [soon] and end it all," said Cotton.
