We all knew that this was going to be a rough season, but some of us were more optimistic than others. (yes I had this team at 5 wins). We are seeing just how far recruiting had dropped and where the culture was when Andersen came in.

He has come in and is not just overhauling the offense and defense, he is working on changing the complete culture of the program as well. We had seen glimpses with the team completely quitting a few times over the past few years and there had been lots of chatter about the team being divided in 2013 & 2014.

It starts with accountability.

Accountability from all of the coaches on the recruiting trail, to the players in the system. The new staff is demanding accountability from across the board. Andersen found it completely unacceptable that OSU had so many players with under a 3.0 GPA when he arrived, and after spring term they were able to post their highest team GPA in years.

The roster will look a lot different next year, but that still may not be enough to translate into a complete turnaround in record. These games have become an try out of sorts as the staff looks to find the guys who want to be here and fight and have the talent to compete at this level.

I've spoken to a few Power Five assistant coaches who told me that this is going to be a 3-4 year rebuild. I really liken where the Beavers are with where Cal was four years ago under Tedford.

The talent gap is huge right now. I went through the starters from last night and looked at their offers out of high school. Here is the breakdown of their Power 5 offers:

Lauina: OSU
Clarkson: 4 P5
J. Mitchell: 2 P5
Seumalo: Lots P5
Stanton: OSU
Villamin: 2 P5
Bolden: 2 P5
Hawkins: 1 P5
Jarmon: 8 P5
N. Mitchell: OSU
Lucas: 9 P5

James: OSU
Peko: 11 P5
Pritchard: OSU
Barnett: 3 P5
Saulo: OSU
Willis: OSU
Noland-Lewis: OSU
Hill: 2 P5
Arnold: 6 P5
Chapell: transfer from Western Oregon
Decoud: OSU

10 starters from last night only an OSU offer or less for Chapell. Hill, Bolden, and Villamin had P5 offers from OSU and Utah. There are way too many projects on the roster currently to compete week in and week out in the PAC 12, bottom line. Need Power 5 talent to compete in a Power 5 conference.
