Walnut Creek (Calif.) Berean Christian 2018 defensive tackle Isaac Hodgins had a special moment on Monday evening as he earned his first scholarship offer.

It came from a school that has his family has great ties to and that's the Oregon State Beavers.

"My mom sent me off to do a couple of errands, and when I came back, my dad was on the phone and handed it to me," Hodgins said. "It was coach Baldwin, and he said we'd like to give you a full ride offer to our school."

Hodgins is the younger brother of Oregon State wide receiver signee Isaiah Hodgins, who was the Beavers highest rated recruit in the class of 2017.

Hodgins' father, James Hodgins, played under OSU tight ends coach Dave Baldwin at San Jose State before a career in the NFL that included winning a Super Bowl. The elder Hodgins is currently Berean Christian's head football coach.

"It was awesome," Hodgins continued to say about his first offer. "I was kind of down that day - seeing all of these other kids getting offers. I knew I had to stay patient and wait on God's time. I was happy to hear that news that they wanted me at their school. It was an awesome moment."

Hodgins admits that the Oregon State offer came to him as a surprise.

"Honestly, I thought it was going to be San Jose State," Hodgins said. "They have been talking to me a lot lately. That's where my dad went to school, so we have ties with them too. Just out of nowhere, Oregon State was the first one to pull through. It was shocking to me."

Oregon State figures to be the early frontrunner for the 6-foot-1, 285-pounder.

"Oregon State has always been a good school that I wanted to go to," Hodgins said. "My brother goes there and I love the school and coaches. They're pretty high up there for me - obviously because they're my only offer, but we'll see what happens."

Hodgins also has a close connection with Baldwin as the rest of his family does.

"I think the first time I met him was my sophomore year. He was there at a spring practice to see my brother. We have good ties with him since he coached my dad at San Jose State. We know him pretty well and at a personal level. It was pretty awesome to have him announce to me my first offer."

Hodgins' first time seeing Oregon State was a couple of months ago when his family dropped Isaiah off to enroll at the school.

Hodgins plans on visiting Oregon State for their spring game on March 18 and also wants to see local schools such as Fresno State, San Jose State, and Cal in the near future.
