There seems to be a lack of intensity---of IN YOUR FACE leadership.
How many times did we see Wetzler be the first one out of the dugout to congratulate someone or pat them on the backside, coming off the field with a great defensive play or a strikeout to end an inning?? With a VERY young team, the leadership is very weak, and maybe even non existent. Casey cannot appoint someone to lead. A true leader steps up and either leads vocally or by example. I would think someone like a KJ or Drew or even a couple of the others could be those leaders but as freshman, maybe they have 'deferred', thinking it's not their job or their place to step up? What about Logan or even Morrison? Heck, I would even take Gabe Clark or Jeff to step up and lead!!
Hard to know but last year, you had guys like Wetzler, Schultz, and even Conforto and Davis (in a quiet, lead by example way) all take charge.
I just have not seen that happen this year. No fire, no intensity, no pats on the back or yelling from the dug out.....
Sad to see a game lost like it was on Friday night (a run walked in) and then a 6 run lead blown and given up on Sunday. These are winnable games and should not slip through their fingers.
Someone on that team needs to step up in a quick hurry, have a 'closed door' players only type meeting and get a fire lit under their butts. This season is slowly slipping away from a team that was 15-3 at one point......
We need that 'bull dog' mentality. That NEVER GONNA LOSE mentality.
I don't know if it's there, with such a young team and such young players??
