For those who missed the chat or want to review the recruiting nuggets, see below.
As I mentioned in the chat, this information, as well as all of the recruiting info on this message board, is sensitive material that is only to be talked about on this message board.
1. Recruiting in LA
I learned that Gary Andersen and Brent Brennan were at the Los Angeles Cathedral game last Friday as the Beavers were in town for the UCLA game. Cathedral has two OSU commits on roster and two targets. The two commits, Arex Flemings and Jeffrey Manning, played well. Flemings caught 8 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown, and Flemings had 6 tackles and a TFL.
Brennan is leading the charge in recruiting these prospects, including big time recruits Jamire Calvin and yes..... Hunter Echols. Brennan is doing an incredible job recruiting the Cathedral quartet. I'll get into the uncommitted guys soon in the chat.. Calvin had a big game with over 100 yards receiving and two TD's. Echols had 2.5 sacks.
2. Rundown on the visitors
OL Onesimus Lutu-Clarke
OSU QB commit Aidan Willard
ATH Dorian Hall
TE Carson Terrell
OL Jordon Carty
Aidan Willard is solidly committed to Oregon State. Nothing else to see there.
I like where the Beavs sit with Lutu-Clarke. BYU will be tough competition for OSU, but we'll learn more about his recruitment after this weekend.
Dorian Hall's recruitment is pretty interesting. Not too often do you see a kid visit Toledo, Oregon State, and then a school like Florida State. Hall has some big time offers. He's going to take more visits after this weekend.
Carty, like his teammate Hall, also has some big time offers, but for both of these guys, OSU coach Telly Lockette is making OSU very attractive to them. OSU could end up with both of these guys. It will be interesting with some of their bigger offers - which schools will bring them up for visits, and which aren't serious about them? Time will tell.
Carson Terrell has a top three of Oregon State, UCLA, and BYU. I could make an argument for each of those schools to why he'll end up there. I think it's too close to call at the moment, but it's great for OSU that he's coming on an official visit.
3. Brandon Pili update
The vibe here is that Pili will either stay close to (his new) home in Portland - maybe like an Oregon State, Oregon, or Washington - or he will end up at USC. It just depends who offers and whether or not Pili wants to stay close to home. If he does want to leave home, then it will be USC. If he wants to stay in the area, then he'll end up at Oregon State, but if UO or UW offer, then that will complicate his recruitment. This is at least what I'm hearing.. I've also been told that when USC is winning, their allure to pacific northwest prospect is very enticing. He visits USC Thanksgiving weekend.
4. Wide receiver recruiting update
The Beavs currently have five wide receiver commits with JuCo Dionte Sykes being the most recent commit. Does Sykes committing mean that the Beavers have no shot with Jamire Calvin and Isaiah Hodgins? if the answer is yes, then that makes sense. If the answer is no, then their WR recruiting will get very complicated. Could the Beavers really take six commits at WR, or would the Beavs pull a scholarship (or ask the recruit to grayshirt) from one of their current commits? Very interesting...
With Hodgins, I'm hearing that he has eliminated Oregon and is down to Nebraska and Oregon State. My source is 99% sure of this. However, the source did inform me that Nebraska is the heavy favorite.
"I was told the family is having a meeting to finalize everything tonight then will notify schools over the next day or two before announcing later on this week," the source told me.
Hodgins announces on Saturday, which is interesting obviously because it's a college football day.
With Calvin, I think it's really between Oregon State and Nebraska with Oklahoma being the dark horse. He is closest with the Nebraska and OSU coaches; Brent Brennan is doing an excellent job recruiting Calvin. Notre Dame and Oklahoma visits are coming up for Calvin, and for the last spot, Cal, WSU, or ASU could get a visit. The vibe here is that Nebraska leads as well.
With all of this information, it's really interesting that Oregon State could end up with six receivers. You'd have to think they'd drop one of them or get one to grayshirt.
5. Could OSU flip a USC commit?
Arex Flemings is an incredible recruiter for Oregon State. He is talking to Hunter Echols, his teammate, who is the No. 4 WDE in the nation. Echols is now considering an official visit to Oregon State, which would be HUGE! I think Oregon State has a really slim chance here, but it would be great publicity for the Beavers if Echols came on an official visit. I think it hurts a little bit that his teammates (Calvin, Manning, Flemings) already took their official visits to OSU. With USC having a great season, it's hard to see Echols flipping.
