As I'm sitting here waiting for Coach Andersen's post-game interview to load/render I thought I'd put down a few of my quick thoughts from tonight.
- I loved the first drive when the Beavers utilized both Collins and Mitchell. Kept the defense on their toes. There is no denying that Collins is electric with his legs, but I don't see him making great decisions and 'running' the offense. Mitchell threw some beautiful passes (and yes, some he'd like back). My initial thought is that the receivers also missed a bunch of balls that they should have caught. Andersen eluded to this as well.
- SID announced that Haskins was out with a quad bruise, Storm was out w/undisclosed injury, and Brown went out with an injury. Yes, Ryan Nall was a load tonight and I loved what I saw there, but there needs to be another punch to go with him. Personally I'd like to see Collins be a RB...talk about a 1-2 punch. Definitely a lightning & thunder approach.
- Defense played much better tonight...well enough for the win.
- Love the fact that this staff isn't sitting by trying to do the same thing week in and week out. They are mixing things up. Moving players, changing things up really trying to get the best guys on the field and put them in a position to win.
- It is pretty sad to see how far the team has fallen off from a talent/size/strength standpoint. Recruiting is addressing it, but it never should have come this far. It feels a lot like Cal when Dykes took over from a long term Tedford.
- I don't want to be a pessimist, but I don't see another win on the schedule. Total rebuild, but this team will be exciting when Andersen gets players that fit his system.
- Best news of the night is that Treston DeCoud is ok. He rejoined the team in the locker room post game. Very, very scary few minutes and after until we heard he was ok.
