The practice report and video interviews will be posted in this thread following practice.
- Freshmen cornerback Isaiah Dunn stood out to me today. For only being a true freshman, he was manhandling receivers today, once against Seth Collins. He was pressing them off the line and showing great physicality. He also took reps with the first team defense today.
- The first team offense looks to be finally running smooth with Jake Luton set as the starter, I could already see the chemistry being built between Luton and Isaiah Hodgins. As they connected 3 times, each reception being over ten yards.
- Kammy Delp took reps with the first team offense today. I think it was to get Delp more comfortable running with the ones in case of an injury to either guards on the offensive line.
- I had the chance to get a good look at Trajon Cotton today. He delivered a big hit today and broke up a pass. The kid has good size and speed, his play style is much like former OSU safety Ryan Murphy.
- Jaydon Grant has been breaking up passes left and right. Today, he broke up a pass thrown by Darell Garretson. It seems like anytime a ball is thrown his way more than likely he will break it up. It's going to be interesting to see if he can make his way up to the first team since he has been impressive since the spring.
- Veterans and starters today were limited to their reps. Mostly young guys and newcomers were getting reps.
- I had the chance to see Conor Blount lead the offense today with the young guys and he was impressive. Though not ever pass was completed he has shown much growth with his ability to throw the deep pass and overall lead the offense.
- The most impressive part of this young guys' practice was the offensive line. The young guys stepped up and did what they had to do. Their protection was on point and they didn't give up a sack from what I have seen.
- Gus Lavaka was seen at practice doing a little extra conditioning instead of taking reps on the field. I like this idea. Gus is a proven All-American talent and instead of risking a minor injury in practice, they're keeping him in shape so that he is 100% full go when the Beavers take on Colorado State.
- There has been questions with the cornerback rotations and here is what it was today:
First team: Xavier Crawford and Isaiah Dunn
Second Team: Jaydon Grant and Shaun Wilson
Third team: Christian Wallace and Kaleb Hayes
Overall thoughts on practice: Today's practice was mainly for the young guys to get into the groove of things on both sides of the ball, it was apparent that there was many players with inexperience taking reps. This will overall help this younger Oregon State team. Allowing guys to take reps with obviously get them more comfortable and ready to hop into action if their number is called or a player goes down with an injury. I would say keep an eye on the young offensive lineman, they are going to be a good group, with size, and technique they could be special in years to come.
