Just a few meandering thoughts I had:
Qb: So far I love the potential that Seth has shown. If he were a junior and producing where he is now, I think I would be disappointed, but for a kid 4 games into his career, he has shown some real explosive potential. It does seem the playbook is scaled back for him so I cant wait to see what a full playbook looks like.
RB: Right now I cant say an RB on the roster does much for me. Maybe Taylor Thomas or Cook will shine next season. I like Nall in the backfield, but Im not sure that will be his permanent spot. Storm has busted his butt for the university, but he is far from elite. I do think we need to top-level back with either power (like Booker), or elite speed to turn 15 yard gains into 40 yard TDs.
WR: A solid B for a grade. Villy has been good. Bolden inconsistent. It was nice to see Guyton make plays. Make room for NKeal Henry???
DE: I know it has been mentioned by our coaches and David Shaw how undersized we are up front. We do have a few guys with Peko and Kalani with good size, but last night showed how much bigger we need to be at the end spots. If I am the coaches, I would really look hard at JC DE's that could add size and depth.
Secondary: I like our starters and Chappel has been a good player this year too. However, it seems we really lack depth, especially at safety. A previous post was pointing out poor tackling by Cyril, but I would be curious how many breaks our safeties had last night? It seems like they are on the field all game.
Special Teams: Great ST are noticed. Good ones are not. Poor ones are also noticed. So far, ST have been littered with mistakes and poor decisions. I certainly don't want Read back, but fumbles, penalties, execution,
and judgement blunders have plagued this team so far.
2-2 was about where I thought we would be. I dreamed of the 3-1 but it was not realistic. I still think this team can get to 5 wins, but really, what we should continue to look for is improvement. I believe if they can string together a full 4 quarters, they can hang with anyone.
