Official release from OSU:
CORVALLIS – Oregon State sophomore punter Nick Porebski has been selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the prestigious Ray Guy Award, presented annually to the top punter in college football by the Augusta Sports Council.
Porebski is in his first year for the Beavers after transferring from Snow College in Utah. The native of Melbourne, Australia is averaging 41.8 yards per punt on 53 attempts. He has eight kicks of 50-plus yards, including a long of 66 yards against UCLA last week, and he leads the Pac-12 Conference for punts downed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line with 22.
The three finalists will be announced Nov. 24 and are invited to the Home Depot College Football Awards Show Dec. 10 in Atlanta that will be televised by ESPN. The 2015 recipient will participate in the All-Area Football Awards and Ray Guy Award Celebration in January in Augusta, Ga.
The candidates were evaluated on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis was placed on the punter’s net average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line and percentage of punts not returned. A national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) coaches, sports information directors, national media and former Ray Guy Award winners will decide the three award finalists.
