The first day of spring practice, Oregon State running backs coach Telly Lockette stressed to his ball-carriers to keep their pad level down as they went through drills and 11-on-11 work. "We were like, 'What?'" senior Storm Woods recently recalled. "We had never really heard that (before)."
When Lockette arrived in Corvallis following two seasons at South Florida — . . . he flipped on film from last season and did not notice many explosive, "home run" carries from the Beavers last season.
"A lot of y'all don't trust your speed," Lockette told his group back then. "Just run. Make them run you down. You're looking to get tackled."
