OSU v Michigan is the truest barometer of this team going forward. Last nights result could have easily been different if it were not for the loss of the SJSU starting QB. Wins versus Weber and San Jose are tremendous for the program and recruiting but by no means should they give hope for the PAC12 beat down that starts next Friday.

This program has all the bones to grow into an excellent perennial winning operation but it's going to take time.

Good:

1. O Line executed well with only minimal penalties albeit 2 personals that were avoidable. Coach Wood has done a very impressive job, and they have great blocking from the TE's which look like they will see minimal targeting as receivers.

2. Woods played inspired! Here is to wishing for the same intensity the remainder of the
season.

3. Collins shows signs of true growth in poise and maturity each game. He is a great athlete to
run the Read-Option. He is not bashful about running....

4. Punting is as expected, World Class along with kickoff doing a great job adding 10-15 yards
on his range over last year.

5. Coach game management skill set is noticeable and refreshing over last staff.

Concerns:

1. Collins strolling down Main Street like he is predisposed to is risky to his health!
The next series of defensive opponents could cause serious injury to this young
man unless he starts sliding more and not treating this level as if it was high school.

2. Defensive secondary looks well coached and the scheme is what appears to create
gaping holes for opponents receivers to have the success they have had. Hard to see
any large athletic mismatches. Well coached group.

3. LB look great. But to me that's 2 out of 4 50%. If we were predominantly 4-3 then the two
LB studs would put us into better shape. James appeared to play DE due to Grimble's
injury rest, and his play looked to be classic bull-rush. Still not sold on the transition to 3-4
but looking forward to watching this progress

4. Defensive line looks like it's going to struggle. LB Coach was Utah DL Coach last year and
did an enviable job. This years DL Coach does not appear to have the demeanor nor the
skill set of the LB Coach... The exchanges between the DC and Dline coach are noticeable.
If I were the boss I'd swap DL and LB coach.

5. D-Cordinator is a tremendous Coach but when adjustments are required at this point none
appear to be made. Granted it takes 2 full viewings on television to fully appreciate the
game, but over 3 games I see zero defensive adjustments after half time.

6. Passing Game.....is it the QB making the receivers look bad or vice a versa...

Big mountains to climb for the remainder of the season. Thus far offense has shown a better adaptiveness and ability to adjust (considering they are not playing with the entire playbook). Defense particularly the line will get punished unless serious adjustments are made. Scheme or players or both I am unsure of what tweeks are required but I am looking forward to some sage observations.
