Nearly 80 student-athletes will be participating (“walking”) at commencement.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Adley Rutschman (Sherwood, Ore.) is the National and Pac-12 Player of the Year. He is the fifth Beaver to be named the conference’s Player of the Year since the then-Pac-10 unified in 1999 joining Jacoby Ellsbury (2005), Cole Gillespie (2006), Michael Conforto (2013 and 2014) and Nick Madrigal (2017).Rutschman was also named the league’s co-recipient of the Defensive Player of the Year, the fourth consecutive season the league has honored a Beaver for their defensive prowess.

NCAA TOURNAMENT

The No. 16 seed baseball team hosts Cincinnati, Michigan and Creighton at this weekend’s Corvallis Regional. Games are on ESPN3 and ESPNU (as of now) and are slated for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Noon and 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. (if necessary Monday). Oregon State is one of just four teams to host a regional in 2017, 2018, 2019 -- the other three are Arkansas, Texas Tech and Stanford.

Creighton won the Big East title this season, went 38-11, and is nationally ranked as high as No. 22. Michigan is 41-18 and finished second in the Big Ten Conference. Cincinnati makes its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1974 after winning the American Athletic Conference Tournament and comes to Corvallis with a 30-29 record.

Three Oregon State men’s crews will hit the water this weekendfor the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. It is the seventh straight year the Beavers have raced at the IRA Championships.

High jumper Ann Wingeleth (Lyman, Wyo.) will compete in the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas June 5-8. She has the potential to be the fifth All-American high jumper for the Beavers since 1971.

BEAVERS WITHOUT BORDERS

The annual international service trip is June 16-22 to the Dominican Republic. The team includes current and former student-athletes Nathan Braaten (soccer), Jesiah Irish (football), Keishon Dawkins (football), AndrzejHughes-Murray (football), Daniel Rodriguez (football), Andrew Bullock (rowing), Chance Burden (softball), Paula Diaz-Lablic (soccer), Maddie Goings (volleyball), Isis Lowery (gymnastics), Grace Massey (volleyball), Allysa Minyard (gymnastics), and Fallon Molnar (softball).

BENNYS

The annual year-end celebration was Tuesday. The major award winners include Adley Rutschman (Male Athlete of the Year), Mikayla Pivec (Female Athlete of the Year), Jermar Jefferson (Male Newcomer of the Year) and Destiny Slocum (Female Newcomer of the Year).

FOOTBALL

• Kickoff times for the first two home games include Aug. 30 vs. Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. on FS1, Sept. 14 vs. Cal Poly at 1:15 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network, and Nov. 8 vs. Washington at 7:30 p.m. on FS1.
• 17 current or former football players will be participating in graduation commencement.
• Former Beaver Jared Cornell, now a financial investment planner, recently conducted a seminar on saving and investing money to football student-athletes.

BASEBALL

• The Beavers open NCAA Tournament play against Cincinnati Friday, a team Oregon State has never played. OSU is 4-0 all-time against Michigan and last met the Wolverines at the 2007 Corvallis Super Regional. The Beavers are 3-0 lifetime against Creighton, defeating the Blue Jays most recently in 2011, 5-1, at the Corvallis Regional.
• The Beavers finished in third place in the Pac-12 with a 21-8 conference record. Oregon State has finished in the top three of the conference in seven of the last nine seasons.
• The Beavers have four consecutive Pac-12 Defensive Players of the Year after Rutschman was named the co-recipient this week. He joins Logan Ice (2016), Nick Madrigal (2017) and Cadyn Grenier (2018).
• Rutschman is expected to be one of the first draft choices on Monday in the MLB Draft. The MLB Network pre-draft show will start at 3 p.m. PT on Monday. The draft will begin at 4 p.m.

• The MLB Draft continues on Tuesday and Wednesday, but will be solely be available through a live draft tracker on mlb.com.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

• The team returns 70.1 percent of scoring, 77.5 percent of rebounding, 76.1 percent of assists and 71.5 percent of the minutes played from last season to this upcoming year.
• Tres Tinkle (Missoula, Mont.) is the only two-time Pac-12 First Team player returning for the 2019-20 season. He also needs 512 points to pass Gary Payton as OSU’s all-time leading scorer.
• Kylor Kelley (Gervais, Ore.) is the only player returning in the Pac-12 who made the league’s all-defensive team.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

• The team returns 80.8 percent of the scoring, 81.4 percent of the rebounding and 89.9 percent of the assists from last season’s team when practice begins later this year.
• Scott Reuck’s crew also returns all four of its double-digit scorers from last season, along with its top two rebounders and its top three players in assists.

WOODCHIPS

• Rower Alina Hagstrom (Seattle) was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference team on Tuesday. Hagstrom becomes the fourth rower in OSU history to earn conference honors twice joining former Olympian Amy Martin (1995 & ‘96), Julia White-Hoppe (2003 & ‘04) and Kaylie Towne (2007 & ‘08).
