NATIONAL HONOR

Adley Rutschman (Sherwood) was selected the National Player of the Month for April by the Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME

Mike Hass, Alexis Serna, Steve Brown, and Ken Simontonare among 32 candidates from District VIII on the College Football Hall of Fame’s screening ballot. The four Beavers match UCLA for second-most on the District ballot. The District includes Hawai’i, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, California and Nevada.

NCAA AWARDS

The #DamWorthIt Campaign has been submitted for the NCAA’s Inspiration Award. The Award is presented to individuals, in this case former standout student-athletes Nathan Braatenand Taylor Ricci, when confronted with a life-altering situation used perseverance, dedication and determination to overcome the event and most importantly, now serves as a role model to give hope and inspiration to others in similar situations.

NCAA TOURNAMENT

Golfer Ellie Slama (Salem) will make it three straight years a Beaver has competed in the NCAA Women’s Championships, May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

USA BASKETBALL

Women’s Basketball standouts Mikayla Pivec (Lynnwood, Wash.) and Destiny Slocum (Meridian, Idaho) will both head to Colorado Springs this month as USA Basketball holds trials for the 2019 U.S. Pan American Games.

Destiny Slocum and Aleah Goodman (Milwaukie, Ore.) both competed at the USA Basketball 3x3 Championships last week in Las Vegas. Slocum’s Team Drive made the finals of the event, while Goodman’s Team Defend advanced to the semifinals. The Championships also serve as the trials for the Pan American Games 3x3 team, with the roster to be announced later this month.

PAC-12 HONORS

Four softball players have been selected to the Pac-12 Conference all-league team: Shelby Weeks(Tracy, Calif.) and Mariah Mazon(Tulare, Calif.) are members of the Second Team. Frankie Hammoude(Oakland, Calif.) and Maia Rader(Orangevale, Calif.) are on the All-Freshman Team.

PRESEASON WNIT

The Women’s Basketball team will participate in the 16-team Preseason WNIT during the upcoming season. Dates and times will be announced later this year. West Coast teams involved include Portland State, Boise State, Pacific and UC Irvine.

SIXTH YEAR FOR VOLLEYBALL STANDOUNT

Kory Cheshire (Lethbridge, Alberta) has been granted a sixth year. She has started 66 career matches and helped OSU to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. She graduated in December with bachelor’s degrees in sociology and psychology, and is currently taking graduate courses.

·Baseball is as high as No. 12 (ranked for 47 consecutive weeks)

·Gymnastics finished the year No. 6 (highest since 1996)

·Men’s Rowing is No. 17.

·Women’s Rowing is No. 19

FOOTBALL

·Pac-12 leads the nation for Friday night games this season with 12. The Beavers have two opportunities in front of a national audience – Aug. 30 vs. Oklahoma State and Nov. 8 vs. Washington – both at Reser Stadium. TV networks TBA.

·Kickoff times for the first three games will be announced later this month.

·The Beavers’ 19 returning starters ranks as tied for the second-most in the Pac-12 with UCLA.

·Dr. Doug Aukerman, OSU’s Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sport Medicine. is a member of an NFL/NCAA Working Group on the sport’s safety. He is also on a medical review team that is studying sideline technology on the awareness of concussions.

BASEBALL

·Three-game series at Oregon – 7:05 p.m. Friday, 2:05 p.m. Saturday and 12:05 p.m. Sunday. All on Pac-12 Network with Rich Burk and Scott Erickson.

·Oregon State comes into the weekend tied for first with Stanford (17-4) in the Pac-12. The teams play next weekend at Stanford.

·The Beavers have won five consecutive games in Eugene, including three by one run.

·Adley Rutschman (Sherwood) leads the nation in walks (a school-record 59) and on-base percentage (.576). He is third in batting average (.429) and fourth in slugging percentage (.805).

·Team is third nationally with a 3.03 ERA.

·OSU is also sixth with 7.26 hits allowed per nine innings and eighth with a 1.17 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched).

SOFTBALL

·The team holds a 24-18 record coming off a bye-weekend last week to host Utah in the final series of the regular season this week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 5 p.m., 3 p.m. and 10 a.m. respectively.

·Oregon State currently has an RPI rank of 41 and a Strength of Schedule of 23 nationally.

·This weekend will be both the Dam Worth It series and Senior Weekend. Six seniors will be recognized prior to first pitch of Saturday’s game: Jessica Garcia (Hughson, Calif.), Lovie Lopez (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.), Meehra Nelson (Simi Valley, Calif), Michelle Sass (St. Helens), Kayleen Shafer (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Shelby Weeks (Tracy, Calif.).

·Weeks (Tracy, Calif.) currently sits No. 4 in the Pac-12 with 16 stolen bases this season. Weeks has 59 stolen bases in her career and holds the top spot in the OSU career records.

·Garcia sits tied for No. 1 in fielding percentage (1.000) and No. 5 in stolen bases (15).

·Mariah Mazon (Tulare, Calif.) holds a spot in the top 10 in six different categories in the Pac-12: No. 4. Innings pitched (160.0), No. 4. Batters struck out looking (36), No. 6. Wins (15), No. 7. Batters struck out (153), No. 10. ERA (2.84) and No. 10. Opp. Batting avg. (.236).

·As a team, OSU ranks third in stolen bases (53) and batters struck out looking (84).

WOODCHIPS

·Volleyball hosts the Willamette Volleyball Classic this weekend and will host Oregon Saturday at 8 p.m. as part of the Classic. Admission is free and Gill Coliseum doors will open at 7 p.m.

·Men’s Golf plays in the NCAA Regionals in South Carolina Monday-Wednesday.

·Men’s Soccer is hosting an exhibition game against Seattle Pacific at Reser Stadium Saturday at 7 p.m.

·Women’s Soccer is at Oregon Saturday for the team’s final spring game.

·The Men’s and Women’s Rowing teams are idle until the Pac-12 Championships May 19 in Gold River, Calif.

·Women’s Track and Field is at the Pac-12 Championships in Tucson this weekend. The heptathlon was held earlier this week with both Sakia McNairy (Lake Oswego) and Claire Corbitt (Portland) setting personal records in finishing 7th and 13th respectively.

·WNBA training camps opened on Sunday. Ruth Hamblin (Las Vegas Aces), Marie Gulich (Atlanta Dream) and Sydney Wiese (LA Sparks) are all currently on rosters.
