DAM PROUD DAY

Tuesday was Oregon State University’s inaugural Dam Proud Day. Unofficially, athletics raised $173,208 from 1,755 donations. Those numbers amount to 34.75% and 68.55% totals, respectively, of the entire day.

ACADEMICS

The Academic Achievement Dinner took place onMonday. The annual event brings campus and athleticsleaders together to recognize the academic accomplishments of Beaver student-athletes.

Gligorije Rakocevic (Bijelo Polje, Montenegro) from men’s basketball and Destiny Dawson (Cottage Grove) from track were honored as Rising Stars – student-athletes who have exhibited a great amount of growth and dedication in the classroom and also have overcome a number of obstacles and persevered through various challenges to ultimately achieve success in their pursuit of academics.

Nathan Braaten (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) of the men’s soccer team and Mariana Colussi-Pelaez (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) from gymnastics were honored with Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. The award is given to the student-athlete who not only demonstrates high achievement in the classroom, but also actively engages in the Everyday Champion programming and the OSU community.

To date, 82 student-athletes have been named to the Pac-12 Academic Teams.

Mari Nishiura (Mililani, Hawai’i) from women’s golf and Shawn Lu (Honolulu, Hawai’i) from men’s golf have been named as the Student-Athletes of the Month for May.

NCAA TOURNAMENT

The Men’s Golf team has qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regionals on Wednesday. It is the first time the Beavers have advanced to postseason play since 2013. OSU will travel to TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C. • Baseball is as high as No. 2. (ranked for 46consecutive weeks)
• Women’s Rowing is No. 17

FOOTBALL

• Pac-12 coaches were at league meetings in Scottsdale, Ariz. this week discussing league initiatives and officiating rules among other topics.
• Coaches remain on the recruiting trail now that spring football has concluded.
• Kalani Vakameilalo (Kapolei, Hawai’i) will participate at the Seattle Seahawks’ mini-camp Friday through Sunday in Renton, Wash.

BASEBALL

• Team takes a 31-11-1 (17-4 in Pac-12) record into a three-game series against Oklahoma State (25-16, 10-8 Big 12) Friday-Sunday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Games are 5:35, 6:05 and 12:05 and are available on the Beavers’ livestream at OSUBeavers.com.
• Friday’s game will be available on the Beavers’ live stream at OSUBeavers.com and will also be carried on Pac-12 Plus Network.
• Saturday and Sunday’s games will air on Pac-12 Network. Rich Burk and Donnie Marbut are calling the game.
• Team is in second place in Pac-12 entering the week behind 15-3 Stanford. OSU and Stanford are heading for a showdown May 17-19 at Stanford.
• Team has won 14 of the last 15 Pac-12 games.
• The series against Oklahoma State stands as the Beavers’ “bye week” from Pac-12 Conference play. Oregon State has won nine straight games in its Pac-12 bye week.
• Adley Rutschman (Sherwood, Ore.) has a nine-game hit streak and is 17-for-35 (.486) during that stretch.
• Rutschman hit his 15th home run of the year on Tuesday, moving him into a tie for third (Al Hunsinger, 1981) all-time in a single-season at OSU.
• Andy Armstrong (Salem) has hit safely in four straight games and is 8-for-19 (.421).

SOFTBALL

• The team holds a 24-18 record into the bye-weekend before returning next Thursday-Saturday for the final home series of the regular season vs. Utah.
• Last weekend, Oregon State swept Oregon for the first time since 2006, and the first time under head coach Laura Berg’s tenure. This also marked the first time the team has won more than two games over the Ducks since 2012.
• Mariah Mazon (Tulare, Calif.) earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching 15.2 innings from the circle with eight strikeouts and one shutout to capture three victories. This is Mazon’s first weekly honor of her career.
• Maia Rader (Orangevale, Calif.) earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors after going 6-for-8 (.750) with three doubles, two runs and four runs batted in to be crucial in OSU’s back-and-forth battle on Sunday. Rader also had one stolen base on the weekend. This is also Rader’s first weekly honor of her career.
• Shelby Weeks (Tracy, Calif.) batted .636 going 7-for-11 with four runs scored, two home runs, one double and four runs batted in while stealing one base. On the season, Weeks is averaging .309 with three home runs, seven doubles and one triple. Weeks now leads the team with 16 stolen bases this season and 59 in her career.
• During the Oregon series, five Beavers recorded at least one home run: Weeks (2), Frankie Hammoude(1), Camryn Ybarra (1), Izzy Owen (1) and Missy Nunes (1).

WOODCHIPS

• Women’s basketball players Aleah Goodman(Milwaukie) and Destiny Slocum (Meridian, Idaho) are competing in the USA Baskeball 3x3 National Championships Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas.
• Saskia McNairy (Lake Oswego) and Claire Corbitt(Portland) will represent the Beavers at the Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships this Saturday and Sunday in Tucson, Ariz.
• Lindsay McShane (Amity) set a new school record in the hammer throw at 199’ 0”.
• Sean Miller-Moore, a 6-foot-5 wing from Toronto, signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Beaver basketball program for the 2019-20 season. He averaged 18.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists this past season at Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Mo.
• The men’s and women’ssoccer teams play at Seattle U. on Saturday.
• Volleyball opens its spring season playing at Western Washington on Saturday.
