PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Women’s Basketball’s Taylor Jones (Forney, Texas) earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors for a school-record third time. She later added the US Basketball Writers Association National Freshman of the Week to her resume. She is averaging 14.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

NFL PLAYOFFS

Quarterbacks Sean Mannion (Vikings) and Matt Moore (Chiefs) will represent the Beavers on the field in this weekend’s NFL Playoffs.

ACADEMICS

Wrestler Hayden Still (Lakewood, Colo.) and gymnast Kaitlyn Yanish (Chandler, Ariz.) have been selected Student-Athletes of the Month. Still is a graphic design major and Yanish is a sociology major.

TRIPLE-A BASEBALL

Former Beaver standout shortstop and longtime MLB player Darwin Barney was named manager of the Nashville Sounds (Texas Rangers’ minor league club) last week.

FOOTBALL

· The 2020 schedule with dates will be announced this month.

· The second National Signing Day begins Feb. 5.

· The team has posted six consecutive terms of 3.00-plus GPA, including a school-record 3.22 for Fall Term 2019.

· Andrzej Hughes-Murray (Federal Way, Wash.) is currently at the Black Student-Athlete Summit in Austin, Texas. You can follow his travels on the Beavers’ football social media accounts.

· Head Coach Jonathan Smith had his contract extended through the 2025 season. Details at osubeavers.com

· Former Beaver assistant coach Brady Hoke has been promoted to head coach at San Diego State. He replaces Rocky Long, also a former OSU assistant.

BASKETBALL (Men)

· Thursday marks the home Pac-12 Conference opener as the team takes an 11-3 overall record (1-1 in Pac-12) to the court for an 8 p.m. game with Arizona State. Sunday No. 24 Arizona visits Gill for a 7 p.m. game. Thursday’s game airs on ESPNU and Sunday’s on FS1.

· The last four meetings between OSU and ASU have been decided by a combined 12 points.

· At 11-3, OSU has matched its best start to a season with the 1989-90 and 2015-16 teams.

· Tres Tinkle (1,937) needs 37 points to pass Mel Counts and move into third on Oregon State’s career scoring list. He is averaging 23.4 points over the last seven games in Gill Coliseum.

· Ethan Thompson (Los Angeles) is averaging a team-best 18.7 points over the last six games, including shooting .581 from the field.

· Kylor Kelley (Gervais) leads the Pac-12 and is second in the nation in blocked shots per game (4.3). OSU is 8-0 when Kelley scores in double figures.

· The team has won its last 22 games when scoring 80-plus points.

· The Beavers are second in the Pac-12 and 13th in the country for assist/turnover margin, and second in the league and eighth in the country for blocked shots.

BASKETBALL (Women)

· The No. 3 Beavs put their undefeated record at 14-0 (2-0 in Pac-12) on the line this weekend, starting at No. 18 Arizona (13-1, 2-1) Friday at 7 p.m. The weekend trip continues to Arizona State (11-4, 1-2) Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games are on the Pac-12 Networks.

· A win Friday will mark a school-record for consecutive wins; the team already has set the mark for the best start to a season.

· OSU is one of four unbeaten teams in the nation.

· Taylor Jones and fellow freshman Kennedy Brown (Derby, Kansas) are first and second in the Pac-12 in blocked shots.

· Mikayla Pivec (Lynnwood, Wash.) is the only Beaver ever to rank in the top-10 in program history in career points, rebounds and assists. She is currently averaging a double-double at 15.4 points and 10.1 rebounds.

· Destiny Slocum (Meridian, Idaho) has 423 career assists, the most by any non-senior in the country.

· Oregon State has won 17-straight home games, dating back to last season

· The Beavers are 86-15 in their last 100 Pac-12 games.

· The team has been ranked in every USA Today Coaches Poll since the final one of the 2013-14 season. UConn, Maryland, and Baylor are the only other programs that can make that claim.

GYMNASTICS


· The gymnastics team hosts its home opener Saturday at 1 p.m. when Centenary and Seattle Pacific visit Corvallis … the meet will stream at osubeavers.com.

· Oregon State finished second at the Critique Classic Invitational in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. to kick off the season last Friday.

· Sabrina Gill (Oakville, Ontario) scored 9.800 on the uneven bars to win the event title in the season opener last week.

· Kayla Bird (Chandler, Ariz.) made her college debut last week performing in the all-around for the Beavers.

WRESTLING
· The team is set to host its first of five duals on the season this Friday against Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. in Gill Coliseum. The meet will be live-streamed at osubeavers.com.

· OSU is 3-1 in duals, including defeating No. 22 Michigan 21-15 in Ann Arbor last week.

· Redshirt junior 133-pounder Devan Turner (Dixon, Calif.) currently owns a record of 17-7 with an 11-4 mark in decisions. Redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Grant Willits (Pueblo, Colo.) boasts a 13-7 record on the season.

· Turner, Willits, and 184-pounder Colt Doyle (San Diego) all appear in the national rankings.
