Nuggets posted here stay here. Let's get started, shall we?
- Oregon State had a busy weekend with camps at Pacific University, Lewis and Clark, and their own camp at OSU on Sunday. I'm told that everything went well at those camps and were run smoothly. For the most part, no recruits blew anyone away that was unexpected. A source tells me that a few kids saw their stock rise from the camp, but there was one young man in particular to keep an eye on: Luke Musgrave, a 2019 tight end from Bend. He camped on Saturday and Sunday in front of OSU and had a couple of big performances. Not many colleges go out to Bend to see kids, so the Beavs have a real diamond in the rough here if they opt to pursue him... The two Portland camps had somewhere around 600 kids and then the OSU camp had about 200. Some big numbers!
- As far as the Oregon State camp goes, 200 is a huge number. I don't think they got near that last year. And the reason for that is that the Beavs have more coaches dedicated to recruiting the PNW than in the GA regime. Lindgren, Michalczik, and Suiaunoa all have parts of Washington that they recruit, and Cookus' only recruiting area is Oregon. So they're on those areas which results in more local kids coming to Oregon State for camps and visits. Well done, staff!
- 2019 QB Weston Eget camped at OSU on Sunday and I'm told he had a solid performance. You can read my interview with him about the camp and visit here. Oregon State has yet to offer him as they're sorting through their options.
- Obviously, Paul Piferi is the No. 1 guy on the board at quarterback. That hasn't changed. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out -- the Beavs are waiting to see what Piferi does this weekend and then will go from there. Piferi is officially visiting Purdue and the Boilermakers are OSU's biggest competition. Piferi will decide between Purdue and OSU (Missouri is the dark horse but unlikely) early next week. If he commits to OSU, then great. If not, then the Beavs will continue to look for a quarterback. Eget is an option, and I'm told by a trusted source of mine in southern California that Oregon State is showing more interest in Nathan Priestly, who has early offers from Colorado State and UNLV. There's a good chance he comes to OSU this weekend for their on-campus camp on Sunday. Keep an eye on him.
- The other QB that OSU is in the mix for is Joey Yellen, but he's a bit of a long shot right now. I don't like where OSU sits with him, which isn't a big deal. They have other options.
- It's safe to say there's a crap ton of stuff going on in OSU recruiting when an upcoming official visitor weekend is near the bottom of the nuggets. I've already reported on the following guys who are set to come in this weekend. OLB Michael Erhart, JuCo WR Trevon Clark, DE Zach Williams, OLB/DE Ryan Franke, and CB Wynston Russell are coming in this weekend.
- Time to break out the breaking news signal!
There's still a 2018 recruit that Oregon State is looking at. 2018 JuCo defensive end Joey Noble is officially visiting OSU this weekend, and while I'm not 100% sure if he has an offer, I'm pretty certain they'd take his commitment. You don't bring in a late recruit on a visit if you're not going to take him. Noble was a full qualifier academically out of high school and only played one season at his junior college. He will be a sophomore with a redshirt year available this fall. If OSU gets him, he'd be able to enroll this summer and could play this fall.
- There should be plenty of fireworks in the month of June for the Beavers in recruiting. I think they'll get 3-5 new commitments. Four-star RB Taron Madison is a guy I'd keep an eye on as well. I've got a really good feeling on him.
- Last but certainly not least... I've previously said on the board that I didn't expect David Morris to be able to play this year. I've been hearing some good things about how he's progressing. I'm not so certain on his status for this fall now.
