Just like a lot of you, I go to the games and re-watch them on my DVR, I pause and look at every play. I also like to wait a few days so I won't be emotional when coming up with my thoughts. I was close to my prediction vs Stanford, I said 42-10 and it was 42-24.

Unpopular or not I will always give my thoughts while maintaining an open mind. I recently had a lengthy conversation about OSU football musings with a few friends who are sports writers/connected.
I am going to start with the Stanford game and let you know where I am coming from.

After a Stanford 5min 14 second drive to start the game
Beavs go 3 and out in 1:28

This was the beginning of wearing down our defense, you guys want to throw Lewis and Strong under the bus but I am telling you its our offense not having consistent lengthy drives that's killing our defense
OSU had 7 possessions of 3 and out
25 min of time of possession vs Furds 35 minutes

Here are my thoughts from the game:
  • Offensive line is playing at a very high level and its getting wasted which is a shame
  • On offense there are about a dozen plays I saw guys wide open usually down the seam and Collins never saw them, our TEs are brutally under utilized and not getting the ball when they should be
  • Collins is making poor decisions on the read options, the DE is playing contain and Collins keeps it, the DE loses contain and Collins hands it off
  • Collins is taking way too long to make decisions on both passing and read options, this is allowing the defense to shut it down
  • Victor Bolden is a good player and he needs to stop dancing around and just turn up field, we need Bolden if we want to win
  • Our guys never gave up
  • Special teams was solid and has been all year
  • Stanford just flat out was the better team
I have read a lot of posts on here where people think Collins is a guaranteed future superstar but I just don't see it yet. He absolutely is not progressing like people think, his stats do look better this game but that's because they dialed up plays especially for Collins, slant routes and deep fades, he was never asked to do much because he can't. He was not going through progression reads as there were wide open guys consistently. There were a few plays I saw him checking down receivers but still didn't throw it even when he was starring down wide open players, instead he takes off with the ball or throws it into coverage.

I would like to address a negative post earlier made about Collins by Jets showing up his teammates and throwing a fit on the sidelines. I made a post several months ago that had stated Collins rubbed some teammates the wrong way and his attitude was bad.
In his defense he is an 18 year old kid and has been given a ton of responsibility and stress/pressure! Gary Andersen is a no nonsense coach who will not put up with that crap so I gotta believe that these things have been dealt with or being dealt with in real time or just blown out of proportion, maybe GA understands he is 18 and is working with him to mature.
Either way I have 100% faith that GA has this handled and yes it did look like Collins threw a fit and laced into teammates pointing the finger on the sidelines but to be fair perception maybe off and it could be nothing at all, I like to give the kid the benefit of the doubt at this point.
If anyone saw the Drive and saw GA rip into the team at Michigan for players not representing OSU well, can easily see why I have fill confidence, that was pretty intense!!!!

I love this new staff and feel we are on the right path, I love what I have seen so far and our guys need to get better each week, with a new Sheriff in town GA, players play hard and don't give up! I need to see more from Collins before I am sold on him being the QB of the future.
