CORVALLIS – Oregon State senior linebacker Andrzej (pronounced On-Jay) Hughes-Murray is a member of the initial Wuerffel Trophy watch list, the organization announced Thursday. The Wuerffel Trophy is an award based on community service, athletic and academic achievement.
Hughes-Murray, a native of Federal Way, Wash., is among the leaders on the team in community service and participated in the Beavers Without Borders service trip to the Dominican Republic last month. He is a two-time member of the Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention team and enters this season having played in every game the last two years with 19 career starts. The psychology major has 78 career tackles.
The formal announcement of the 2019 recipient will be made at the National Football Foundation's festivities in New York City on December 10. The presentation of the 2019 Wuerffel Trophy will occur at the 51st All Sports Association Awards Banquet on February 14, 2020 in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
