Kendall Rodgers and Aaron Fitt have their midseason awards out over at D1 Baseball. They have K.J. Harrison as the top freshman position player and Drew Rasmussen has having the best individual performance by a pitcher so far in 2015. Kendall also has the Ducks as the most disappointing team. Not sure which part gives me the most pleasure...
Got a chance to see the Beavs at UCLA when they were down here. I took a friend of mine who works in scouting and player development for the Angels to the game to get his take on our kids. He really liked Harrison, especially behind the plate. I was surprised to see how good of a catcher he was, even though he dropped a couple of balls and didn't block one that he should have. For being a true freshman, those mistakes were palatable. Both of our jaws dropped when he smothered a fastball in the dirt, regained himself and threw out the runner trying to steal second. That was a big league play.
I've always been a Jeff Hendrix fan and think that he could potentially get drafted in the first five rounds. My friend agreed and really liked his build, athleticism and swing. He may be kind of fringy as a center fielder at the next level, so how teams evaluate his ability to stick in center will say a lot for his draft stock.
Anyways, as always, Go Beavs!
