SEATTLE – The top-ranked Oregon State baseball team dropped the series opener at Washington Thursday night, 3-2, at Husky Ballpark.
The Beavers rallied in the ninth, pushing the game to a one-run deficit on an RBI single by KJ Harrison. But the Huskies ended the game on a groundout to a sprawling Levi Jordan at second, whose throw narrowly beat Michael Gretler at first.
The loss snapped Oregon State’s school-record 23 game win streak, and pushed the Beavers to just their second loss on the year. OSU is 28-2 overall, and 12-1 in Pac-12 Conference play. The Huskies are 20-12 overall and 7-3 against league foes.
Trevor Larnach opened the game’s scoring, driving in a run in the first on a double past the third-base bag. But the Beavers managed just one run – in the ninth - off reliever Noah Bremer, who earned the win, improving to 3-3 on the year.
Luke Heimlich started for the Beavers, working 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs – one earned – while striking out seven. He took the loss, dropping to 5-1.
Nick Madrigal tallied three hits, a home run short of the cycle, and scored both of Oregon State’s runs, to lead the team offensively. Harrison also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4.
The Huskies scored three runs in the sixth to take the lead. Willie MacIver tied the game on a double, then watched as John Naff reached on a throwing error, scoring two runs.

Thursday’s series opener was delayed approximately 40 minutes due to the threat of weather in the area. First pitch was thrown at 6:48 p.m.

Cadyn Grenier extended his season-long hit streak to nine games with a bloop single to left in the sixth inning.

Thursday’s loss ended Oregon State’s 23-game win streak, one shy of tying 2010 Arizona State for the longest in conference history. The last Oregon State loss was Feb. 24 in Surprise, Ariz., against Ohio State.
