While the second half had a mid-90s Darrell Aune-type feel to it, like others have posted I did see some things that give at least some hope. The defense actually tackled!!!! I started the game keeping track of missed tackles, after the Beavs missed four on the first drive. I got to 8 but then figured it was a futile exercise.
The defense also actually forced a turnover!!! And then another!! While the Beavs offense has actually been fairly efficient in not turning the ball over this year, the D has forced very little as well. It was nice to see them get a few.
I know Seth Collins bashing is in vogue now, but I actually thought the offense, and at times, SC looked decent (not good, but decent) in the second half. The line seemed to be creating some holes, the tempo seemed faster, SC completed a couple of passes down the field to Victor Bolden, and it seemed like there were a few wrinkles in the playbook we had not seen yet.
I know WSU was probably going pretty vanilla, and having been involved with blowouts as a player and coach, the Cougs likely didnt have much of an edge, but I personally felt a little better about the team after that half. It seemed like the coaches said at half: "you are auditioning for your scholly this upcoming half. Do you want to be here?" I'm hoping this was their "rock-bottom" moment.
Now onto Colorado. Big recruits coming to town. Let's hope the baby steps can continue from the second half. I know I will cheer if:
-they dont give up a TD on CUs first drive.
-can hold CU to FGs instead of TDs most of the time in the red zone. OSU has been brutal on D in the red zone the last couple years. Automatic TDs.
-not go 3 and out in the first offensive possession.
-have Seth run less, roll out more.
-block like they did in the second half.
