Hey Edgers! Hope you're all having a great Wednesday!

@tjmathewson was at practice for us today and has the inside scoop!

Here are today's interviews with Jim Michalczik, Deshaun Fenwick, and Grant Starck!

NUGGETS via @tjmathewson!

On one final 100-degree day in Corvallis, Oregon State took to the newly renovated Reser stadium for a mock scrimmage (not a true scrimmage, but the roster was split down the middle) and practice No. 12 of fall camp. Here’s everything that happened.
  • The competition was really ramped up today, the two sides (orange and black) were talking a lot of trash as the battles of the mock scrimmage wore on throughout practice.
  • It reached its peak when Rweha Munyagi Jr. made a spectacular leaping catch in the far corner of the end zone. I would say about half of the far sideline mobbed Munyagi almost into the tunnel of the new visitors’ locker room on the northwest side of the stadium. After a fact, there was a lot of yelling across the way to the other side where the other team and where us media were sitting.
  • That was a pretty common theme as the plays got more intense. Plenty of yelling and unsaid gestures going toward the said players opposing sides. They were having a bunch of fun.
  • Back to that catch, or actually, the throw. It was Aidan Chiles in at QB, who had just sat out the day prior with arm soreness, lofted a perfect pass 30 yards downfield where only his WR could catch it.
  • It was good to see that throw because if you rewind earlier into practice, we saw more jitters from Chiles. Trent Bray’s defense was sending an extra rusher into the freshman’s face on a good chunk of the plays and it was throwing off his timing. Chiles wouldn’t have a problem dodging the rusher, but by the time the pass got out it would be a few strides behind his receiver.
  • The Beavers did break out some real trickery on a play, while we can’t go into too much detail about it, the pass ended up in the hands of Jaden Robinson for an interception in the end zone. Robinson did a nice job of recovering on the play and getting deep to track down his receiver.
  • Zach Card flashed some deep ball skills off a 50-yard toss from DJ Uiagalelei, running right under that rainbow of a throw down the near sideline while skating to keep both of his feet in.
  • Trent Walker continues to stand out, his hands might be the most impressive part of his game. Doesn’t seem to matter if he’s out on the boundary or in the middle of the defense, he’s going to get his hands on the football. One really impressive one today was a throw DJ left too far out in front on a slant, but it didn’t really matter when Walker stuck his hands way out without breaking stride, makes the catch and splits the defense for an extra chunk.
  • Atticus Sappington went 1/2 on kicks, making from 35 and missing from 55. I don’t think Everett Hayes kicked during live reps.
  • Deshaun Fenwick and the offense pulled off a great counter-blitz on offense. Trent Bray and co. overloaded the right side and sent a blitz toward DJ and Fenwick, the two set up a perfect screen going left and had half the defense watching in the backfield as Fenwick ran down the sideline untouched for a TD.
  • Ben Gulbranson finished off practice with a great throw into double coverage to Jeremiah Noga, who vacuumed up the ball and skirted his way into the end zone from 10 yards after the catch. It was great execution by both QB and WR.
  • Alton Julian saw a little bit of action running with the “second” team in live action. He looked as is, nothing major to report...
  • Just note that today the teams were really mixed up today. First, second, and third-team guys were all playing together in the same unit. The depth chart below is just a baseline.
