We are at the toughest part of the year for college football fans...the week before the first game. Optimism runs high, but with a new staff and system everyone is tempering their excitement and until we see how the team responds on the field, it is all speculation and discussion.

What I will tell you that win or lose, this team/system will bring some much needed excitement back to Oregon State football. National expectations are low. Some of the most loyal fans that I know have told me that they will be ecstatic with 5-6 wins as many only expected 2-3 after the Civil War last year.

The defense is young, but I like the athleticism and variety we have seen so far. It is tough to even come up with a depth chart since there is so much movement between players and their positions.

I think we see glimmers of great plays on offense and some duds, but again, everything is new and it will be exciting to watch.

Hang on...we are only nine days away.
