I dont know whether it is scheme or poor fundamentals but our defense did not hold containment all night Stanford ran very simple student body sweeps and our defensive edges crumbled immediately, leaving no one to turn the play up. Their running backs were 6 or 7 yards up field before backside pursuit was able to get there, and then they did, they did a horrible job of tackling. It just appeared that the onside DE, OLB, and corners shot inside, and got sealed by Stanford's blocking, rather than holding the edge and stringing the play out. I was very disappointed in the defense. Where I thought the offense took some big steps forward, I think the defense took some big steps backward.
