Silsbee (Tex.) running back Calvin Tyler Jr. officially visited Oregon State over the weekend, and it's clear that he had a great time in Corvallis.
OSU offered Tyler on January 13, coach Phillips and coach Lockette had an in-home visit with him on January 19, and Tyler flew out to Corvallis on the 20th.
"The coaches pass the first test, like they very up front," Tyler explained. "I know I can trust them, so I was just waiting to make it to Corvallis, and when I made it, it felt like I was in my hometown, which means it felt like home.
"I enjoyed being with the other plays already there. I see the brotherhood and how close they are. They welcomed me with open arms."
The OSU staff is making it known to Tyler that he is a high priority for them to land as their second running back in the class.
"I'm very different from other backs," Tyler replied when I asked what the OSU coaches were telling him during the visit. "I have great vision, great balance, and I have a lot of speed. And that they will love for me to be a Beaver."
The 5-foot-9. 185-pounder has decisions to make.
"It's time to sit down with my parents and narrow things down," he said.
