Be kind of fun to compare this year's basketball results compared to the 1977 team. The 1977 team stars were freshmen Radford and Blume with sophomore Johnson at center. Dwayne Allen was no slouch either. Ralph Miller was the head coach and the team got blown out by 31 points at North Carolina, finished with a 16-11 record for 109th out of 244 teams. Thing is about that young team was that as it gained experience over the years, won the PAC Championship and reached #1 Nationally in the polls. Probably the start of the best run of basketball we have seen (at least in modern history). It finished ranked 9th nationally at its best.
I am expecting we have better overall talent with this team and as good, if not better, coach in Tinkle (remains to be seen). Next years class should improve team strength for upcoming years. Expecting the same type of growing pains the 1977 team did but I am hoping/expecting that this team will ultimately finish as good or better over the next four years as the 1977 team.
