I was going through the roster to see the names of non-reshirting guys who did not seem to contribute or play much after the first three or four games. It's quite a large group and I think a dozen will go elsewhere, maybe even 15.
I also went back and looked at the 2015 class and which guys committed (and visited) after GA took over. Aydun, Collins, DeCoud, Folau, Fuimauno,Irvine, Katoa, Paul Lucas, Moala, Moore, Sands, Thomas, Togiai, Wily-Matagi.
That 2015 class is nothing short of remarkable given the circumstances and they are almost universally either big and tough or fast, just like the 2016 verbals so far.
My conclusion is that there is no reason to think that next year's team will be anything short of a HUGE upgrade in talent and intensity. We got just a glimpse of the future yesterday and so did the recruits, JC guys on the fence and probably a few "Adams rule" seniors. Really, who (among the kind of intense, committed guys that we want) wouldn't want to play for this coach and with these guys?
People's (my) expectations (I thought we'd win four or five and dreamed of a bowl) were tempered after the season began when they (I) realized how massive the rebuild was and just what GA inherited (I'll just say "a mess" so as not to turn this into an MR thread).
Next year Anderson will bring in probably 32 (or so) of "his guys" (25 plus transfers) when all is said and done, perhaps 12-15 who can contribute next year. Add in Garretson, the 2015 redshirts, this years "gamers" with another year in the weight room and the system and a few transfers and we are looking at a team that will compete with anybody on our schedule. Rose Bowl? No. Bowl game? Perhaps and definitely a possibility. Two or three wins? NFW.
Yesterday the program gave visible, tangible evidence to al that the culture had changed. We can finally get past the "bottoms" of 2015 and put it in our rear view mirror. Buckle up and enjoy the ride, it's going to a good one from here on out.
